Jaunpuri (Waves Album): Stories of Sacred Romance- Part Two

“The wave is the same as the ocean, though it is not the whole ocean. So each wave of creation is a part of the eternal ocean of Spirit. The Ocean can exist without the waves, but the waves cannot exist without the Ocean.” ―

Paramahansa Yogananda

Jaunpuri is a morning raga. It is replete with the rasa of bhakti or devotion, just as it echoes the grandeur of the divine creation. This is our second creative exploration of a spiritual journey through music, images and performance, where the mudras and dance choreography reiterates on the concept of awakening through the waves of light, sound and visions , till they crystallise to give shape to a clearer vision of the divinity residing within us. The Album has for its exposition the Gayatri mantra (Rigveda 3: 62), which has its own mythical story. We have attempted to render the feeling of bhakti which the raga instils in our hearts. We have tried to explore how this feeling of joy leads us to the vision of light and liberation (resonant with the mythical sun deity, Savitur) through creativity. The mantra, sung in Jaunpuri raga churns in our minds, hearts and souls and cleanses the shadows of pain and disharmony which we face and which pull us down to the depths of depression and negativity in life. Freed from all dark stains that eclipse our souls, Savitur comes to our inner vision as a thousand splendid suns blossoming and its vibrancy is the prana rippling as waves of energy within and around. In this light of the divine , the face of Gayatri emerges from the womb of our consciousness to bless us with love, creativity and harmony.
